In 2019, Greta Van Fleet made the jaws drop in the rock and metal music industry when they won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album. Back then, they were a semi-new band with only a debut album and two EPs to their name. But their 2017 effort, From the Fires, wowed many critics with the band’s approach to classic rock. Critics have dubbed them the “Lez Zeppelin for Gen Z,” thanks partly to Greta Van Fleet’s likeness to the legendary band. But if they admittedly draw inspiration from Zeppelin, they are doing it very well, and fans and critics welcome the band with open arms. Their Grammy win, along with three other Grammy nominations that year marks the band’s rise to prominence.
Hence, they dropped another highly-acclaimed record, The Battle at Garden’s Gate. The sophomore studio album follows Greta Van Fleet’s breakthrough debut album, Anthem of the Peaceful Army. For their second record, the band explored themes on ancient civilizations, the parallel universe, and the human experience and used biblical references. This notable work led to the album dominating Billboard’s Top Hard Rock and Top Rock Albums and peaking at number 7 on the Billboard 200. For the rest of the world, Greta Van Fleet’s sophomore album was a phenomenal hit after entering the charts in over 20 countries.
Although Greta Van Fleet’s members are very young, the band has demonstrated musical prowess comparable to an old blues rock veteran. The band demonstrated their take on the classic rock through their debut EP, Black Smoke Rising. The album spawned the number 1 Billboard Mainstream Rock single, “Highway Tune.” Meanwhile, the EP also entered three Billboard charts, including Top Hard Rock Album’s Top 10.
This 2023, the band will release their latest studio album, Starcatcher, which has already been preceded by the single “Meet the Master.” The song entered three Billboard charts, peaking at number 4 on the Digital Hard Rock chart.
Apart from the Grammys, Gret Van Fleet has also earned numerous accolades, including winning Best New Artist at the Loudwide Music Awards, Rock Song of the Year for “Safari Song” at the iHeartRadio Music Awards, Best Foreign Album for Anthem of the Peaceful Army at the Poland’s Fryderyk Awards.
